An Important Choice to Make

I recently read an intriguing article about web browser wars in the March 8th edition of Business Week. In the article they reference http://www.whatbrowser.org, a Google owned (yet neutral) website that advocates “Browser Awareness”. I would advise that you to take a moment to check it out and see what you’re missing, unless you’re already using Chrome or FireFox (yes I’m biased). More importantly, the article describes an interesting concept... Some European countries now require PC manufacturers to allow the end-user to choose which browser they want to use. In other words, if IE is set as the default browser Windows will prompt the user to choose a different browser or keep IE as the default. This initiative derives from an antitrust settlement involving Microsoft and while it is only exclusive to the EU, don’t be surprised to see it in the States. Furthermore, I wouldn’t be surprised to see something similar happen to Mac (Safari is to Mac as IE is to PC). With the recent passing of IE6 and the rise of Google’s Chrome the browser wars are far from over, but you won’t find me switching sides! I applaud Business Week for shedding some light on the subject.
