Inspiration/Motivation: Staying creative
Sometimes we can loose our desire to be creative. This could be because of the client, a bad day at work or even a bad night at home...making it difficult to preform the task at hand.
How can we prevent this from happening? There are several ways to help ourselves stay motivated.
In addition to this, Everybody has their own ways in which I would like us to share w/each other at the end of the lecture.
Tips:
Set Goals
-When you have accomplished one of your goals, this can bring you great relief, therefore motivating you to complete another. Set the bar low to start and be realistic. Reward yourself (personal gain, feeling of accomplishment, portfolio, even material)every time you hit a goal.
Ahhh, my comfy chair.
-Surround yourself with the things that you love. This will help you to make a "creative space". When I come in to the office everymorning I see the things that I like the most and this helps motivate me.[use Lori, Meli as examples]
Consider your personality.
-Are you an early bird or a night owl? Know when your mind is the most creative. Create your comps during that time.
Track your progress.
-Look back at what you have done in the past and look to see where your at now. There should be an improvement in your work and this should be enogh to keep you going.
Keep a journal/Sketchbook
-Every idea is worth writing down, whether it be good or bad. Sometimes you may be so overwhelmed with good ideas you dont know where to start. Maybe one concept you had for one design can be applied to another, thus saving you time.
Seek help
-have a co-worker help you brainstorm
Time out!
-Give yourself a little bit of time off and see what new ideas appear. Work on something else in the mean time. Additionally, Dont wait until the last day to design the composition, that day may be the worst for you.
Be optimistic and have fun!!!
Uh, oh, I'm in a slump!
-Step outside for a bit or go do something fun to get your mind off of what you are doing.
-Find inspiration by observing your peers. Look to see what they are doing.
-Set a time limit
-When all else fails, SIMPLIFY! Go back to the basics.
Create and maintain a routine.
Set goals
Choose the right time of the day
Keep a journal/sketchbook
Reward yourself
Make it fun
Track your progress
