Redesign #1Website: http://www.milehighcity.com/Industry: Tourism
This Denver, Colorado on-line business and tourism guide has grown exponentially over the past years and would like a face-lift of their current site.
The clients target demographic are tourists from around the world, specifically adults 25 and older, looking for places to stay and things to do in Denver, Colorado.
The client feels that they have a lot to offer but the information needs to be more accessible. The current website is stale and looks outdated…but they would like to keep their existing logo.
The current color palette is acceptable, they like the idea of using colors that are in their logo but would like some gray added, and would definitely like to use a neutral color (preferably gray) to separate the main content area from the background (they feel that the current website is just floating there)
As for the layout and structure, the client feels that there is no consistent style on the page and that it does not flow very well from top to bottom.
The client would like a large skyline picture of the city in the banner and the “MileHighCity.com“ smaller and in a different font.
The client also thinks the navigation gets lost on the page, it is too hard to find! The client would like a horizontal top navigation either above or below the banner picture.
The client is requesting that we add an “availability and rates” search function on the homepage for finding hotels and rental cars. They specifically mentioned using something similar to expedia.com, only that it should be stylized according to the new look of the site.
The client also requests that we add a daily weather section to the website, it should be small yet prominent.
The client is happy with the list of Denver facts but would like the section to be made smaller, also the client would like some of the facts from the “virtualcity.html” page in a section above the main facts list.
The client would like the existing “search” function to be relocated to the main content area, or at least below the banner and navigation.
One last thing that the client mentioned was adding an area to the home page for a featured link, specifically for a featured shopping link.
A mini-contact form is not necessary because the client would not like to be contacted.
Redesign #2Website:http://www.twistandshout.com/Industry: Music, movie store
Twist and Shout is a very popular local independent CD, LP and DVD store. They are currently in the process of moving to a new, larger location in the downtown Denver area. Not only will they be giving their store a new image, they would like to do the same for their website.
The target demographic of the company is primarily college students, young adults and “down to earth music lovers”.
The site is easy to find on the search engines but the client has a hard time keeping people on, and coming back to the site. There is a lot going on, on the current website and the client would like to keep it that way, only make it look aesthetically pleasing. The main objective here is to improve organization of site to make it more user friendly.
The client would like to use their existing logo and color scheme, they like the dark gray/black color palette.
The client does not want to change the navigation…other than adding a little more whitespace around the links.
The “News”, “Twist Exclusives”, “In-store Appearances”, “Upcoming Exclusives”, “contact information”, “Featured Items” and “search” function all need to be on the new home page design…but need appear much more eye catching.
The client would like the “in-store appearances” section at the top of the page just below the banner (they feel this is one of their most important features).
You will also need to add a sign up form for the clients email newsletter, which is sent out bi-monthly. The only information that they require is an email address.
The client would like all of the different content areas to be similar sized and colored, and they would like to keep the “boxy feel” to their website.
The client also mentioned keeping the MySpace call to action but it needs to be smaller and towards the bottom of the page as it is of lower importance.
A mini contact form is not necessary but the client is curious to see what one would look like in the new design.
Redesign #3Website: http://www.awisemove.com/Industry: Moving/Storage
This family owned local moving service has no clue when it comes to the web.
Their current website was designed by a family friend and they are less than impressed. Since its inception, their current website has not generated more than a few leads, this is unacceptable.
The client wants to emphasize their services, which include moving, packing and storage.
The client would like to keep the green color but need a new logo (new brand), be creative!
The client suggested adding some content to the home page, preferably a brief welcome/introduction message. He specifically mentioned using some of the text from the existing “about us” page.
Currently, the graphics on the page are varied in style, the client would like the graphics to be similar in style to each other.
Because the client has a hard time generating leads from the current website, a mini contact form is a must.
The client likes the graphic on the bottom of the page, the green line with the houses on it, he would like to see it implemented in the new design.
This site desperately needs some structure and a more creative navigation too, and the client is leaving this decision up to you.
The client would like more images on the home page, like the ones on the meet.htm page.
The client also requested that you add a section for moving specials to the home page.
The client does not like the American flag and counter at bottom of page, they feel it is a bit tacky and I must agree.
You will also need to find new graphics for the discover/visa/master card logos; the ones that are currently in place are too pixilated.
The last thing that the client asked for was adding a small moving tips section on home page and include the 3 tips that are on the “1231.htm page”
